Hi, I’m Melynette. It’s what the people closest to me call me, and it felt right to use it here.

I’m 21, I studied Political Science, and a few months ago I moved to French Guiana to build a life here. What that life will look like is still an open question.

I’ve spent the past few months looking for work, sending applications, and trying to work out what comes next. I like having something to do, so having so much unstructured time has been harder than I expected.

A few things about me

I’m creative, curious, and very good at finding a new activity to become completely absorbed in. Sometimes the enthusiasm lasts. Sometimes, a week later, I’ve moved on to something else.

I love making things with my hands, organising, and highlighting far more of a page than is probably useful. I love a tidy space. I’m also very capable of making a mess.

I love reading, even if I don’t make as much time for it as I’d like. I can have a wonderfully productive day, followed by one spent mostly in bed. I care deeply about my family, and I tend to give a lot of myself to other people – sometimes more than I have to spare.

There are quoi a few contradictions in there? I’m learning to be okay with them.

The future I am trying to build

I’ve never had a clear answer to « What do you want to do with your life? »

At school, I enjoyed learning and doing the work, but I couldn’t picture where it was taking me. Political Science gave me three years of subjects I liked exploring, without giving me the certainty I’d hoped to find.

I’m ambitious, even when I don’t know where to direct that ambition. I want to earn. a good living, support the people I love, and build a future where I have both time and financial security for a family of my own.

That matters a lot to me. Sometimes, it also makes me afraid of getting things wrong.

Why I’m here

Her Unfinished Chapters is something I am starting while those questions are still unanswered.

Here I share personal reflections, reading discoveries, and explanations of world events. My studies are part of what I bring to those explainers, alongside careful research and a willingness to say when I don’t know.

I can’t promise to have everything figured out by the next article. I can offer honesty, curiosity, and a space where you don’t have to pretend you know exactly where you are going either.

If any of this feels familiar, I hope you’ll find something here that make you feel a little less alone.

Until the next chapter,

Melynette
